Approval granted for anaerobic digestion plant plans

Plans to construct an anaerobic digestion (AD) plant in Lincolnshire have received official approval. Future Biogas submitted a proposal to the East Lindsey District Council to develop the facility, including an office, access roads, and supporting infrastructure, on land located west of the B1202 near Wragby.

The council's planning committee gave the green light to the project during a meeting on Thursday, subject to specific conditions. The company states that the plant is expected to generate up to 150 terawatt hours of biomethane each year, sufficient to supply energy to approximately 35,000 households.

Anaerobic digestion works by decomposing organic materials to produce biogas, which can then be fed into the national gas network. The operation will involve transporting a range of locally grown crops to the facility using lorries.

Philip Lucas, CEO of Future Biogas, highlighted the companys established connections with around 400 farmers across eastern England, noting their strong reputation within both local and national farming communities. He emphasized that the project offers local farmers an opportunity to adopt more sustainable and regenerative agricultural practices.

Councillor Richard Cunnington expressed support for the plan but raised concerns about the proposed delivery times, which could extend until 9:00 PM. He stressed that residents should be able to enjoy peace and quiet in their gardens during the evening.

Andrew Booth, the council's lead development manager, explained that the imposed conditions had been carefully reviewed by the environmental health team and represented a balanced approach to address both operational and community concerns.
