Connie Chung Criticizes 'Greedy' CBS Owners in Harsh Takedown: They are Driving it 'Into Crumbles'

Former CBS Evening News anchor Connie Chung has openly criticized the leadership of her former network, condemning what she describes as its recent shift toward a more partisan approach. Speaking on the latest episode of Pablo Torre Finds Out, Chung remarked that CBS today is a completely different organization compared to when she worked there.

She singled out Shari Redstone, who sold her controlling stake in Paramount Global to David Ellisons Skydance Media in an $8.4 billion deal over the summer. Chung said, Their greed has caused the venerable CBS to fall apart, to crash into crumbles.

Chung laughed before mentioning Bari Weiss, the conservative journalist recently appointed as CBS News editor-in-chief. Im not sure what to make of Bari Weiss, she commented. Earlier in the conversation, she admitted she can no longer watch CBS, lamenting that the news landscape has shifted so dramatically that viewers cant find good old-fashioned facts anymore.

Connie Chung was just the second woman to co-anchor a major U.S. nightly news program, joining Dan Rather on CBS Evening News in 1993. Her remarks reflect growing criticism of CBS and its management, particularly after Paramounts $16 million settlement with former President Donald Trump over a 60 Minutes lawsuit. The settlement, widely criticized as excessive, coincided with the approval of the Paramount-Skydance merger.

Chung also recalled the era of late CBS owner William S. Paley, who emphasized the importance of an independent news division free from financial pressures. She cited Frank Stantons tenure as CBS president, noting that he frequently defended journalistic integrity before Congress. Now that sense of responsibility is being dismantled, she said. Reporters are supposed to be watchdogs of government. Its our duty to report information not handed to us.
