The proposed development of a new park in St Saviour, Jersey, may come in significantly under budget, according to a parish official. Initial estimates placed the cost at 3 million, but adjustments in project plans could reduce expenses by approximately 900,000.
The initiative involves transforming two fields located behind the parish hall into a public recreational space. Residents have raised questions about the necessity and cost of certain features, including resin pathways, brick-paved parking areas, and the planned 32 parking spaces.
Kevin Lewis, the Constable of St Saviour, confirmed that switching to more cost-effective materials could lower the overall expenditure. Parishioners have requested a more detailed financial breakdown before giving final approval.
Lewis stated, "I would be satisfied with a gravel parking area or any option that provides the best value for money." He also acknowledged that a proposed bike track could not be accommodated on the current site. "We will explore alternative locations to ensure young people have safe spaces for activity," he added.
