Section of Mountain Road closed for tree removal

A tree in a hazardous state prompted the temporary closure of a section of the A18 Mountain Road, a major route linking the Isle of Mans capital, Douglas, with the northern regions. The closure, which lasted from 13:30 GMT to 16:30 GMT, was essential for the safe removal of the tree, according to the Department of Infrastructure (DoI).

The tree, located at the Hairpin bend near Ramsey, had recently shifted and was deemed unstable. The department explained that if not addressed immediately, it could pose a risk to drivers and pedestrians. As a result, the tree was felled as a precautionary measure to prevent any potential accidents.

Despite the closure on the northern section of the A18 between Ramsey and the Bungalow, alternative routes remained open. The Tholt Y Will Road, providing access between Douglas and Sulby, was unaffected. Both the Victory Cafe at the Bungalow and the Creg ny Baa Hotel remained accessible from both Douglas and Sulby during the closure.
