On December 4, a coalition of 15 Democratic senators introduced a bill that would require airlines to compensate passengers in cash for major flight delays. Leading the effort are Senators Mark Kelly, Ed Markey, and Richard Blumenthal.
The proposed legislation aims to align U.S. rules with those already in place in the European Union and Canada. Under the plan, passengers would receive a minimum of $300 for delays exceeding three hours and at least $600 for delays lasting six hours or more.
This initiative follows the Trump administrations decision on November 14 to abandon a previous plan, proposed by his predecessor, that would have mandated cash payouts to passengers affected by airline-caused flight disruptions.
