Amy Schumer has opened up about her recent health journey, clarifying the true reason behind her dramatic 50-pound weight loss. The 44-year-old comedian, who has previously discussed using injectable treatments for weight management, posted a video on Instagram Monday to respond to online speculation about her changing appearance.

In the video, filmed by her six-year-old son Gene, Schumer was seen relaxing on her bed while her child showcased their home. Text overlaying the clip read: I never wear jewelry. I didnt get Botox or filler. I didnt lose 30 pounds, I lost 50. Not to look hot, which does feel fun and temporary. I did it to survive.

Schumer went on to explain her health condition, referencing her battle with Cushing syndrome. I have a disease that makes your face extremely puffy that can kill you. But the internet caught it, and that disease has cleared, she said.

Cushing syndrome is a disorder caused by prolonged high levels of the hormone cortisol, leading to symptoms such as central body weight gain and facial swelling, according to the Mayo Clinic.

The comedian addressed online critics, stating: Sorry for whatever feeling its giving you that I lost that weight. Ive had plastic surgery over the years and use Mounjaro. She added that she is now pain-free and able to enjoy activities with her son, like playing tag.

Schumer also offered to share more about her experiences, particularly as she navigates perimenopause, the transitional period before menopause. She concluded her post by addressing rumors about her relationship with husband Chris Fischer, clarifying that any personal developments have no connection to her weight loss or his autism diagnosis. Fingers crossed we can make it through. Hes the best, she wrote.

Over the past year, Schumer has been transparent about her use of Mounjaro for weight management, describing her positive experience. She explained that she was prescribed the medication alongside estrogen and progesterone to alleviate perimenopause symptoms through the virtual health clinic Midi Health, which specializes in midlife womens care. She noted that the medication is typically only covered by insurance for diabetes or severe obesity, though she has had a beneficial experience using it.

Previously, in January, Schumer discussed on The Howard Stern Show her attempt at using Ozempic three years ago, which resulted in a 30-pound weight loss but left her bedridden due to a genetic predisposition to nausea, a common side effect of the drug. She said, I was like, vomiting and then you have no energy. But other people take it, and theyre all good. God bless them. I couldnt lift my head off the pillow, so whats the point?
