Though never married, Maher has had notable relationships. In 2003, he dated flight attendant Coco Jonsen. Their relationship ended, and in November 2024, Jonsen filed a $9 million lawsuit against him, alleging emotional distress and offensive remarks. She claimed Maher had persuaded her to leave her airline job, promised marriage and children, and purchased a house in Beverly Hills. Maher denied these allegations, with his attorneys emphasizing his status as a confirmed bachelor. The lawsuit was dismissed in May 2005.
