Daisy Fuentes has expressed her admiration for Bad Bunny ahead of his Super Bowl Halftime show. The former MTV host and lifestyle entrepreneur, 59, praised the Puerto Rican star for staying true to himself on a global stage.
I was thrilled for him, Fuentes shared. He demonstrates what can happen when you embrace your authentic self. She highlighted that Bad Bunny, performing in Spanish, hasnt compromised his identity or style. He hasnt changed his music, his message, or his vision. His authenticity will resonate with countless people. Whether you enjoy his music or not, what hes achieved is remarkable.
For Fuentes, authenticity has been central to her life and career. Born in Cuba and raised in Spain until age nine, she grew up in a household that celebrated both her Cuban and Spanish roots. After her family moved to New Jersey, she navigated American culture while cherishing her heritage. I never saw my background as a limitation. It was an added strength that propelled me forward, she said.
As a child, Fuentes initially struggled with English and had to adapt to her peers. This experience helped her develop a neutral Spanish accent, which later aided her MTV audition. Despite having no connections in the entertainment industry, she became one of the first Latina VJs on MTV in the 1990s and hosted the popular show House of Style alongside Cindy Crawford.
Recalling her MTV audition, she said, I arrived late, drenched from the rain, wearing a white leather outfit, and I still managed to impress them. That moment changed my life.
Fuentes also reflected on her decision to launch her own lifestyle and fashion brand over 20 years ago. Initially tested in the Hispanic market, her brand became widely successful and is now seen as a model for celebrity licensing. It was rewarding to see a Hispanic name resonate with women across the country, she said.
Having presented Bad Bunny with the Best Urban Song award at this years Latin Grammys, Fuentes hopes his Super Bowl appearance will highlight cultural representation in the United States. We want our heritage to be visible. America is a melting pot, and its vital to recognize the richness in our diversity, she concluded.
