Dick Van Dyke Mistakenly Believed He Swallowed His Dentures, until He Caught His Dog Bootsy Poppins Chewing on Them

Dick Van Dyke, the legendary entertainer soon to turn 100, recently shared a humorous incident involving his dentures and the family dog, Bootsy Poppins. The 99-year-old actor and author revealed that he once feared he had swallowed his dental plate, only to later find it being chewed by Bootsy Poppins.

During the Vandy High Tea event held at the Van Dyke home in Malibu, California, on November 30, Van Dyke recounted the story. I have to tell you about this dog. I have a dental plate here. You see that gap? Somehow it was nice and snug. It fell out. And I looked and I looked and I looked, he said. I look under the dining room table, and this dog is chewing on my dental plate! She chewed it up to bits.

His wife, Arlene Silver, also present at the event, explained that the situation led to a visit to urgent care for an X-ray. We thought you swallowed it, remember? We had to do an X-ray, she recalled. Van Dyke confirmed, Thats right we thought I swallowed it. Silver added, So it was good news that we found it, right, Boots? ... Then Bootsy found it during rehearsal. We were relieved.

The couple, who met at the SAG Awards in 2006 and married in 2012, introduced Bootsy Poppins to the public in December 2023. At the time, Silver shared the news on Instagram, calling her furry companion Bootsy Poppins Van Dyke .
