The HBO comedy series I Love LA follows a group of young adults navigating life, identity, and ambitions in Los Angeles. With a glamorous city as their backdrop, fashion becomes a central part of their self-expression.
Costume designer Christina Flannery, known for her work on The Righteous Gemstones, aimed for a style that felt both modern and approachable. She drew inspiration from iconic designers like Jean Paul Gaultier, Galliano, Chlo, D&G, and McQueen, while also exploring emerging talent from SCAD and FIDM.
Maia (Rachel Sennott)
Series creator Rachel Sennott portrays Maia, an aspiring talent manager going through a pivotal life phase. Flannery describes her look as fresh and accessible, incorporating light colors and 90s-inspired textures to reflect youth and optimism. As Maia evolves, her wardrobe introduces more striking pieces.
Key outfits include a cream cotton mini dress by Orseund Iris and a red corset mini dress by Dilara Findikoglu, worn at Maias twenty-seventh birthday celebration.
Tallulah (Odessa Azion)
Tallulah, a bold influencer returning from New York to L.A., embodies a chic yet edgy aesthetic. Her style merges darker tones with riot-grrrl influences, emphasizing her daring personality. Highlights include a rose-print mesh mini dress by Jean Paul Gaultier, a vintage Liquid Blue Psycho Skull T-shirt, and a black Balenciaga Le City tote.
Flannery sourced much of the wardrobe from local L.A. vintage shops and online stores, often consulting Vogue Runway for designer pieces.
Mimi Rush (Ayo Edebiri)
British pop star Mimi Rush, played by Ayo Edebiri, quickly gained fan attention despite limited screen time. Her wardrobe, including a beige leather ensemble by Marina Eerrie, draws from influences like FKA Twigs, Rick Owens, and avant-garde labels like Matires Fcales. Flannery noted the playful, alien core aesthetic of her outfits.
Alani (True Whitaker)
Alani, the privileged daughter of Forest Whitaker, works at her fathers production company. Her wardrobe reflects comfort and understated elegance, often featuring archival pieces from her mothers collection. Casual looks include a Miu Miu cotton polo with Mugler mesh-panel biker shorts, while office attire showcases a mesh crop top by Barragn paired with a long slit skirt.
