Face masks mandatory for accident and emergency visits

The Royal Surrey County Hospital in Guildford has requested that all visitors to its accident and emergency unit wear face coverings. This precautionary step is described as a "temporary measure" aimed at safeguarding the well-being of patients, staff, and visitors.

The hospital's announcement comes as England experiences an unusually high number of flu cases for this season. Health experts have noted the circulation of a particularly aggressive strain of the virus.

The NHS Royal Surrey Foundation Trust highlighted a rise in both flu and other respiratory infections. They emphasized that using surgical masks can help limit the transmission of these illnesses. Masks are provided at the department entrance for anyone who requires one, and visitors unable to wear a mask are advised to notify staff.

The hospital urges the public to take this guidance seriously to protect the community and maintain a safer environment during the peak of the flu season.
