In the past, I would spark interesting conversations by asking people about their zodiac signs. Whether they identified as an organized Virgo, an energetic Aries, or a harmonious Libra, it was always a fun topic. However, after watching Julia Roberts on the Late Night with Stephen Colbert, Ive decided to start asking people about their favorite sandwich instead. Youre probably thinking about your own favorite right now. A sandwich is a reflection of our personality, a small but meaningful choice that reveals something about us. For instance, my mom used to make the best tuna salad sandwiches when I was growing up, and they will always hold a special place in my heart.
But when Stephen Colbert asked Julia Roberts to share her favorite sandwich, the answer caught everyone off guard. No one expected this combination.
Julia Roberts' Favorite Sandwich
"The best sandwich from my childhood, everyones probably going to hate itbut then I grew up," Julia began. I was immediately intrigued by what she was about to say. Before my mom introduced us to tuna salad, my brother and I used to ask for just mayonnaise on a hot dog bun. Could Julia's childhood sandwich be anything like that strange mayo combo? But noher sandwich didn't involve mayo at all.
Instead, Julia revealed her surprising choice: "Peanut butter and jelly with sour cream and onion potato chips smashed in it," she told Colbert. And heres the kicker: it was on wheat bread. White bread, according to Julia, would stick to the roof of her mouth. Naturally, I had to try this unique twist on a PB&J.
How Does Julia Roberts' Sandwich Taste?
Its been a long time since I last had a PB&J, but I had all the ingredients at home, so I gave it a try. I picked up a bag of Lay's Sour Cream & Onion chips at the store, although I had apricot jelly on hand instead of the typical strawberry or grape. For simplicity, I kept the bread un-toasted, just like a kid would. I'm already a big fan of adding potato chips to sandwiches, so I was curious to see how this would turn out.
At first, I was skeptical about the combination of sweet jelly and savory chips. After all, onions have a strong flavor. But to my surprise, the sandwich tasted great. The chips added a satisfying crunch, the onion flavor blended surprisingly well with the sweetness of the apricot jelly, and the saltiness from the peanut butter and chips created a perfect balance. I cant believe Julia Roberts still enjoys this sandwichits definitely one Ill be making again, even though it's not a childhood favorite of mine.
