Live-Action Adaptation Possible for Epic Spy Video Game

A new report has emerged indicating renewed progress on a live-action adaptation of a well-known stealth video game series, drawing fresh attention to its long-delayed comeback. Early movement behind the scenes has sparked growing interest among fans as several related projects advance at the same time.

Live-action Splinter Cell project moving forward after Deathwatch

A live-action interpretation of Splinter Cell is once again in active development. Insider account @MyTimeToShineHello shared on X (formerly Twitter) that a new live-action project centered on the franchise is underway, though no information was provided regarding the production format, studio involvement, or development schedule.

Ubisoft continues working to revive the Splinter Cell brand through multiple initiatives. Among these are the animated Netflix series Splinter Cell: Deathwatch and a modern remake of the original game. Netflix recently released the first season of Deathwatch and has already approved a second season.

David Grivel, who led the direction of Splinter Cell: Remake from late 2021 to late 2022, has returned to the project. He confirmed his involvement through LinkedIn, describing the remake as a meaningful assignment for him. After departing Ubisoft Toronto, Grivel joined Ridgeline Games at EA to contribute to Battlefield 6 before the studio closed in early 2024. He briefly returned to Ubisoft Toronto to work on an unannounced title, later joined Worlds Untold, and has now resumed work on the Splinter Cell remake.

Ubisoft originally revealed the remake in 2021, but it has remained in development without a release target. Efforts to revive the franchise have faced several setbacks. Former team members reported that a new Splinter Cell prototype was once reworked into xDefiant, a live-service shooter that did not succeed. Ubisoft also requested adjustments to Netflixs animated adaptation due to internal plans for the series.

The last main entry, Splinter Cell: Blacklist, arrived twelve years ago, earning strong reviews but performing below expectations in sales. Grivels renewed involvement signals that Ubisoft still views the franchise reboot as a priority despite limited updates on its progress.
