'Mad Men' Actor Shares Battle With Neurological Disorder, Confronts Family Member's 'Cruel' Actions

January Jones, famous for her portrayal of Betty Draper in "Mad Men," recently shared a personal struggle with a neurological condition shes had her entire life. In a revealing Instagram video, the actress discussed how misophonia, a disorder that causes extreme discomfort in response to certain sounds, has worsened over the years.

In the video posted on Thursday, the 47-year-old explained, "Ive been living with misophonia my whole life, and it has progressively become more difficult to manage." She went on to describe how sounds like crunching chips trigger intense anxiety, making everyday life more challenging. She also highlighted how one family members behavior exacerbates her condition.

Jones shared her frustration with her brother-in-law, who often eats chips loudly around her. Despite her attempts to discuss the issue with him, he seems to find her discomfort amusing and continues the behavior. "His favorite food is chips. He eats them all the time, and it drives me crazy," Jones confessed.

She expressed her feelings, saying, "Its really unkind to me and my issue, and also dangerous for him." In a darkly humorous twist, she joked, "I didnt film this video from prison today... though Ive thought about it." She added that, despite this ongoing issue, she appreciates her brother-in-law's other positive qualities, wishing him a happy birthday, humorously adding, "I hope you're eating a ton of chips today."

Her brother-in-law, Tyler King, responded to the video on Instagram, acknowledging his attempts to eat quietly but admitting that he sometimes enjoys teasing her. "To be fair, I try to crunch quietly. But yes, its funny sometimes thanks for the birthday threat!" he wrote in his Instagram story.

Many of Jones' followers empathized with her condition, with some sharing their own experiences. One user commented, "I have misophonia too. Its tough, and its so important to hear someone speak about it openly like this." They added, "I always thought I was the only one, and its reassuring to know that others experience the same thing."

Earlier this year, Jones also made headlines for her rare public outing with her 13-year-old son, Xander, at an event in Laguna Beach. The actress, who has never revealed her sons father, spoke in 2013 about how she values privacy regarding her sons personal life. In a 2017 interview, she jokingly mentioned that Xander has plenty of "bro time" with neighborhood dads and her youthful father. Jones emphasized the positive impact of strong female role models on her sons upbringing, saying, "Its important for men to be raised around strong women who teach them to respect women."

In addition to discussing her family life, Jones opened up about her decision to freeze her eggs after having Xander. On the "Race to 35" podcast, she explained that freezing her eggs allowed her to relieve some pressure about her future, saying, "I wanted to take the weight off my shoulders." She also acknowledged the societal expectations women face regarding marriage and motherhood, saying, "I had an idea of how life would go, but things rarely unfold as expected." Jones detailed the egg-freezing process, which involved hormone injections for up to 11 days to stimulate her ovaries to produce multiple eggs, increasing the chances of successful retrieval.
