Nearly two months following Diane Keatons passing, the actress was commemorated at The Hollywood Reporters Annual Women in Entertainment Gala. Former co-stars Sarah Paulson and Goldie Hawn shared emotional stories about their time with Keaton, who died in October at 79 from pneumonia. Fans and colleagues alike have continued to express admiration for the iconic performer.
Mandy Moore, who portrayed Keatons daughter in the 2007 film Because I Said So, reflected on the lasting impression Keaton left. She radiated warmth and a maternal energy that was immediately felt, Moore recalled. It wasnt just that she was a mothershe had this innate generosity of spirit.
Moore also remembered Keatons signature style. I would arrive on set for hair and makeup before her and watch her walk into the trailer, effortlessly stylish. She had this aura that was uniquely hers, Moore said. It wasnt only her fashionit was everything about her.
To Moore, Keaton represented a rare authenticity in Hollywood. She was like a unicorn in the industry, doing things on her own terms, which was inspiring. The actress admitted that Keatons absence is deeply felt. She seemed eternal, and the idea of the world without her is surreal. She had a magical, singular spirit.
Working alongside Keaton made Moore feel like part of a family. Every moment with her on set was precious. She made it easy to connect and feel like kin, she said.
In Because I Said So, Keaton played an overbearing mother, yet Moores own parenting style is taking a different direction. I understand her characters actions came from love, and I appreciate that now as a mother. But I want to ensure my children feel supported, not smothered. Time will tell how my approach develops, Moore explained.
Parenting has also brought its challenges. Last year, Moores two sons contracted RSV simultaneously, a frightening experience despite no hospital visits. It was overwhelming, and as new parents, you feel unprepared, she said. When her daughter Louise was born in September 2024, Moore prioritized protection against RSV, including the preventive antibody injection Beyfortus, to safeguard her baby from severe infection.
These experiences shaped her view on parenthood. Every day brings new challenges, and some days feel more manageable than others. Accepting that illnesses will happen while knowing you have options offers comfort, Moore shared.
She also finds reassurance in knowing other parents face similar struggles. Parenting is chaotic for everyone, and remembering Im not alone helps me cope, she said.
