Matthew Lillard has responded to recent remarks made by Quentin Tarantino regarding his acting abilities. Lillard, widely recognized for roles in early 2000s hits such as Scream and She's All That, has more recently showcased his versatility in projects like Twin Peaks: The Return and Good Girls, earning praise for his range.
Despite this, Tarantino expressed his lack of appreciation for Lillard during an episode of The Bret Easton Ellis Podcast. While discussing his favorite films of the 21st century, Tarantino criticized the cast of There Will Be Blood, calling Paul Dano "the weakest male actor in SAG," and later added, "I don't care for him, I don't care for Owen Wilson, and I don't care for Matthew Lillard."
Lillard addressed these comments during his appearance at GalaxyCon, speaking openly to an enthusiastic audience. "Quentin Tarantino this week said he didn't like me as an actor," Lillard stated, prompting the crowd to boo the sentiment. "Eh, whatever, who gives a shit," he continued.
He went on to admit that the remarks were painful. "It hurts your feelings," Lillard explained. "It sucks. And you wouldn't say that to Tom Cruise. You wouldn't say that to somebody who's a top-line actor in Hollywood."
Lillard also reflected on the contrast between his reception by fans and in the Hollywood industry. "I'm very popular in this room," he said. "I'm not very popular in Hollywood. Two totally different microcosms. It's humbling, and it hurts."
His response has been described as refreshingly candid, showing resilience in the face of criticism from a renowned filmmaker.
