Maurice DuBois has revealed that he will step down from CBS Evening News on December 18. This follows the earlier announcement from co-anchor John Dickerson, who confirmed he will leave the show by the end of 2025. With both departures, CBS has not yet named new anchors, leaving the evening broadcast without permanent hosts.
DuBois, a veteran journalist, shared the news on Instagram: "December 18th will be my final broadcast at CBS News. It has been an incredible honor21 years in total, including my time at WCBS-TV in New York City. What a privilege!"
He expressed gratitude to viewers for their support over the years: "Being welcomed into your homes each night, sharing stories, and meeting extraordinary people has been unforgettable. I will leave with cherished memories and deep appreciation. Just a few weeks left; until then, catch me nightly at 6:30 on CBS Evening News."
DuBois' departure makes him the second anchor to exit the program this year, following Dickerson, who announced in October: "At years end, I will leave CBS after sixteen years since first hosting Face the Nation. I am thankful for the work, the audience, and the incredible colleagues who shaped me as a journalist and a person."
So far, CBS News has not disclosed who will replace DuBois and Dickerson, leaving the program without anchors at the start of 2026 unless appointments are made beforehand.
Tom Cibrowski, CBS News president and executive editor, commented on DuBois announcement: "Maurice is deeply respected as a journalist, and we wish him great success. I hope we have the opportunity to work together again. More details about the future of CBS Evening News will be shared soon."
DuBois and Dickerson joined CBS Evening News in January 2025, succeeding Norah O'Donnell. DuBois originally joined CBS in 2004 as the anchor for CBS 2 News at 6 in New York and previously worked at WFLD-TV in Chicago, KCRA-TV in Sacramento, and WNBC-TV in New York.
