Nicholas Hoult & Daisy Edgar-Jones Set to Star in UK Comedy Series 'Mosquito' Commissioned by Disney+ and Created by Tony McNamara

Nicholas Hoult and Daisy Edgar-Jones, two of the UKs most acclaimed actors of their generation, have been cast as the stars of Mosquito, a new original series created by Oscar-nominated writer Tony McNamara. Disney+ has given the project a six-episode straight-to-series order.

The darkly comedic series, part of Disney+s UK original content lineup, will be available internationally on Disney+ and on Hulu in the United States. Mosquito explores the complexities of a young couples relationship with a wry, sardonic tone, reflecting McNamaras signature humor.

Hoult, Edgar-Jones, and McNamara have previously collaborated on hit Hulu projects. McNamara created and Hoult starred in The Great, a comedy-drama that ran for three seasons, while Edgar-Jones earned acclaim in the limited series Normal People. Both shows were celebrated by audiences and critics, with Golden Globe nominations for Hoult and Edgar-Jones and a Best TV Series Musical or Comedy nod for McNamara. Additionally, The Great earned Emmy nominations for Hoult, McNamara, and Elle Fanning.

Mosquito continues McNamaras exploration of dark, absurdist comedy while examining the next stage of a young couples life. The story follows Kate (Edgar-Jones) and Ed (Hoult), a newly married pair whose hidden truths begin to emerge under the pressures of everyday lifeset in motion by an unexpected mosquito.

McNamara, who also serves as executive producer, expressed enthusiasm about the cast, saying he is eager to create absurd comedy with Hoult and Edgar-Jones. The series is produced by 20th Television, Piggy Ate Roast Beef Productions, and Hustle & Punch, with additional executive producers including Hoult, Edgar-Jones, Marian Macgowan, Tracy Underwood, and Daniel Pipski. Disney+ commissioned the show under the oversight of Lee Mason, Disney EMEA executive director. Filming is scheduled to begin in 2026.

This project is the first significant UK series greenlight following Angela Jains appointment as Head of Content, Disney+ EMEA. Disney executives praised McNamara for his talent in crafting complex stories with dark humor, describing Mosquito as a major step forward for local original programming.

McNamaras recent works have all been Disney-related, including The Great for Hulu, as well as films like The Favourite, Poor Things, and Cruella. His collaborations with Yorgos Lanthimos have earned him multiple Oscar nominations and a BAFTA award.

Edgar-Jones has several high-profile films in the pipeline, including Sense and Sensibility, A Place In Hell, and Here Comes the Flood. Hoult will next appear in How To Rob a Bank alongside Anna Sawai, Pete Davidson, and Zo Kravitz.
