Sydney Sweeney recently revealed the inspiration behind her unforgettable Shrek-themed Thanksgiving gathering. The Anyone But You actress expressed excitement over the lively event and explained why she decided on this particular theme.

Inside This Years Thanksgiving Festivities

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight at the New York City premiere of her latest film, The Housemaid, on Tuesday, December 2, Sweeney described how the idea for her themed celebration came about. "I love bringing everyone together, and I wanted to host a Friendsgiving," she explained. "But I always need a theme." She continued, "I thought, 'What theme lets everyone embrace their playful, childlike side?' And Shrek is perfect!"

She went on to describe the gathering: "I invited all my neighbors, and we had something like a block party. My friends and neighbors are amazingthey showed up in full costume, and it was such a blast."

Costumes and Party Highlights

Sweeney shared images from the celebration on Instagram on November 30. She was dressed as Dragon from the Shrek movies, featuring a red leotard with scale details, wings, a tail, gloves, and a matching horned headpiece. Her friends embraced the theme as well, appearing as iconic characters like Shrek, Princess Fiona, Lord Farquaad, and Donkey.

Upcoming Projects

Outside of the festive fun, Sydney Sweeney is preparing for the release of the psychological thriller The Housemaid, directed by Paul Feig and adapted from Freida McFaddens 2022 bestseller. The film stars Sweeney alongside Amanda Seyfried, Brandon Sklenar, Michele Morrone, and Elizabeth Perkins. It is scheduled to hit theaters on December 19, 2025.
