Executive producer John Wells explained that the show mirrors the reality of a teaching hospital, where residents eventually move on. Collins exit aligns with this natural staff turnover and allows the series to maintain authenticity.

Season 1 left Collins storyline unresolved after a personal tragedy and temporary leave. Viewers are eager to learn what happened to her during the break between seasons, and it is hoped that Season 2 will offer at least a brief explanation of her whereabouts and experiences.
