You Probably Missed the Buffy Easter Egg in the Ready Or Not 2 Trailer

Directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are reuniting with the lone survivor from 2019s Ready or Not, Grace, played by Samara Weaving, for a fresh round of deadly challenges in next years Ready or Not 2: Here I Come. The first full trailer has arrived online, showing Grace once again fighting for her life.

This installment introduces Sarah Michelle Gellar, widely recognized for her role in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, who appears to bring a touch of her iconic Buffy persona to the movie. Grace now faces off against an even stronger faction of wealthy adversaries, alongside her estranged sister, Faith, portrayed by Kathryn Newton (Abigail, Freaky).

At around 1:48 in the trailer, Grace battles Gellars character, Ursula. Ursula gains the upper hand, flipping Grace to the ground and striking her with a stake-like weapon. Fans of Buffy will immediately recognize the move as a deliberate homage to the series, reflecting the signature fighting style that made Gellar famous.

While Buffy was a heroic figure battling supernatural foes, Ursula represents the opposite, being part of a sinister council atop a wealthy hierarchy. The Easter egg is a playful twist for Gellar, who remains in impressive fighting form, hinting at more action ahead. She will also reprise her role in the upcoming Buffy the Vampire Slayer sequel series, set to debut on Hulu in 2026.

The plot of Ready or Not 2 follows Grace shortly after surviving the lethal Le Domas family. She discovers a more dangerous level of the game awaits, now with her sister Faith by her side. Grace must survive, protect her sister, and contend for the High Seat of the ruling Council. Four rival families pursue her, with ultimate control of the world at stake.

Gellar is joined by horror legend David Cronenberg (The Fly, Scanners) and a supporting cast including Shawn Hatosy (Animal Kingdom), Nstor Carbonell (The Morning Show), Elijah Wood (The Lord of the Rings), Kevin Durand (Abigail), Olivia Cheng (Warrior), Varun Saranga (Wynonna Earp), and Daniel Beirne (The Institute).

Ready or Not 2: Here I Come is scheduled for release in theaters on April 10, 2026.
