The White House has released new information regarding two MRI scans that President Donald Trump underwent in October. The disclosure follows recent calls from Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, who urged the president to make his test results public.
President Trump previously stated that he was unsure which areas of his body were scanned, but expressed confidence that his brain was not involved, citing a perfect score on a cognitive test.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt announced in a briefing on Monday, Dec. 1, that Trump had undergone abdominal and cardiovascular MRIs at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. She read from a memo by White House physician Sean Barbabella, which confirmed that the scans showed perfectly normal results.
Barbabella described the MRIs as part of a comprehensive physical exam, emphasizing that thorough cardiovascular and abdominal evaluations are particularly beneficial for men in Trumps age group, 79. He called the MRIs preventative and stated, This level of detailed assessment is standard for an executive physical at President Trump's age and confirms that he remains in excellent overall health.
The White House shared Barbabellas report but did not release the actual MRI images. They had previously described the October visit to Walter Reed as a follow-up evaluation.
Barbabellas disclosure comes shortly after Governor Walz called for the release of Trumps MRI results, following a controversial remark from the president aimed at Walz during a Truth Social post over Thanksgiving. Trump criticized local officials and specifically referred to Walz in derogatory terms, prompting the governor to demand transparency regarding the scans.
On Nov. 30, aboard Air Force One, Trump told reporters he would willingly share the perfect results of his latest physical. When asked which parts of his body had been scanned, Trump replied, I have no idea ... it wasn't the brain because I took a cognitive test and I aced it, also adding that his perfect score would be difficult for others to achieve.
Earlier reports by Barbabella had noted that Trumps Oct. 10 physical included lab tests, advanced imaging, and preventive health assessments, though the specific imaging types were not initially detailed. Leavitt described the October visit as a routine yearly checkup, even though the president had completed an annual physical in April.
In July, Trump was diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency, a condition affecting blood flow in the leg veins. At 79, he is the oldest person ever elected U.S. president and is expected to surpass Joe Biden as the oldest sitting president during his term.
