Man Arrested for Shutting Down Busy Los Angeles Freeway During Rush Hour to Film Music Video

A Los Angeles resident has been formally charged after allegedly halting traffic on a major freeway during peak hours to film a music video. Eduardo Erik Martinez, 33, entered a plea of not guilty to one felony count of conspiracy to commit exhibition of speed and two counts of felony vandalism, according to a press release from the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office on November 26.

Authorities reported that on November 22, 2023, Martinez allegedly orchestrated a blockade on the northbound 110 Freeway near the 9th Street offramp. During the stunt, multiple vehicles reportedly performed donuts around his car while he filmed the music video.

Footage purportedly taken from the video shows a man dressed in a light-colored suit standing on top of a car while vehicles circle him on the freeway. The clip, shared by Fox 11 Los Angeles, illustrates the dangerous maneuver described by officials.

This type of reckless conduct was aimed solely at gaining social media attention, stated Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman. We are committed to cracking down on dangerous street takeovers that risk lives and endanger the community. Those who treat public roads as a personal stage will face legal consequences.

Martinez is scheduled to return to court on December 11 to set a preliminary hearing. His bail is set at $100,000. Additionally, he faces charges for vandalizing a bench at the Foltz Criminal Justice Center in October 2024 during an unrelated court appearance.

If convicted, Martinez could face up to four years and four months in prison, the press release stated.
