Carville: Trump's power is diminishing rapidly

Political analyst James Carville indicated on Tuesday that President Trumps approval rating is likely to fall even further, following Gallups release of its lowest polling figures for Trump since the end of his first term. The latest survey from Gallup places Trump at a 36 percent approval rating, the lowest since shortly after the January 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol. At the conclusion of his first term, his rating stood at 34 percent.

I dont know how much lower you can go, Carville commented during The Daily Beast Podcast with host Joanna Coles. I believe his ability to accomplish significant presidential actions is essentially over. He will almost certainly face a Democratic-controlled House after 2026, and its highly likely the Senate will remain under Democratic control as well.

Carville added, Trumps influence is fading rapidly. You can sense it slipping away.

The strategists remarks build on a November 24 opinion piece he wrote for The New York Times discussing the future of the Democratic Party amid Trumps dwindling popularity. Carville wrote, We are experiencing the greatest economic inequality since the 1920s. President Trump has done nothing to ease the cost of living, the central promise of his 2024 campaign. The public is rebelling, and this creates an exceptional opportunity for Democrats: a second chance.

He further asserted that the spirit of a French Revolution is in the American air. Carville criticized the Republican economic approach, stating, While the stock market thrives, Trump and decades of corrupt Republican policies have fractured the core of the American economy. The wealthy continue to amass wealth while the majority struggle. Even as Trumps approval drops to historic lows of his second term, Republicans maintain confidence in an unstable economic model while ordinary Americans bear the burden.

Concluding his op-ed, Carville emphasized, Change is possible. The Democratic Party must act accordingly.

Although Trumps approval rating is at a low point according to Gallup, it is not the lowest ever recorded for a U.S. president. Former President Harry Truman held a 22 percent approval rating in February 1952, the lowest in Gallup polling history.
