Trump accuses Democrats of 'destroying' cities like Charlotte due to crimes committed by previously-deported illegal immigrants

Former President Donald Trump criticized Democratic leadership on Saturday, arguing that their policies are destroying cities such as Charlotte after a man who had previously been deported was charged in a stabbing on a local train.

The suspect, identified as 33-year-old Oscar Solarzano, was accused of attacking a passenger on a Charlotte light rail train late Friday. Court filings stated that Solarzano had been removed from the United States before unlawfully returning.

In a social media post, Trump wrote that another violent incident involving an undocumented migrant in Charlotte highlights what he views as the consequences of lenient Democratic governance.

Local reporting indicated that Solarzano was allegedly intoxicated while riding the train, provoking passengers and initiating a confrontation before the stabbing. Records also show that he was staying at a shelter and that no bond was set due to his illegal status and prior deportation.

Charlotte has been a focal point of Trumps immigration push, with federal agents deployed in recent weeks to detain and deport undocumented migrants, similar to operations in other major cities. The actions sparked protests and led many students to stay home to avoid possible encounters with immigration authorities.

The city has also remained in the national spotlight following the August killing of Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska on a train. Trump previously said the attacker, identified as 34-year-old repeat offender Decarlos Brown Jr., deserved the death penalty. Brown has faced numerous prior arrests and is currently charged with first-degree murder.

The victim of Fridays stabbing was reported to be in critical condition at a local hospital as investigations continue.
