Warren calls for McMahon to resign due to being unfit

Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Massachusetts) has demanded the resignation of Education Secretary Linda McMahon, accusing her and President Donald Trump of conducting a sustained attack on public education. In an op-ed for USA Today, Warren criticized McMahon for policies that, she claims, increase class sizes, reduce support for students with special needs, expose college students to predatory financial practices, and hinder the overall functionality of the Department of Education.

Linda McMahon is not fit to lead the Department of Education. It is time for new leadership, Warren wrote.

The senator highlighted actions by the Trump administration aimed at downsizing the department, including transferring programs to other federal agencies and cutting staff by half. Warren argued that these measures are less about efficiency and more about undermining the department from within, making it so dysfunctional that its elimination might be considered.

She warned that these changes could have severe consequences for schools, particularly in funding and classroom resources, and stressed the importance of federal support for public education. Drawing on her experience as a special education teacher, Warren emphasized that public education is essential to ensuring that every child, regardless of background, has access to quality learning.

The Department of Education responded to the op-ed by calling it inaccurate and alarmist. Press secretary Savannah Newhouse defended McMahons policies, highlighting efforts to align K-12 programs with higher education and workforce initiatives, and questioned Warrens concerns regarding student loans.
