SEC Quarterback Joins Transfer Portal Ahead of College Football Playoff

The SEC Championship is set for Saturday, featuring the Georgia Bulldogs facing the Alabama Crimson Tide. While some teams await playoff invitations or bowl matchups, others are already looking toward the 2026 season, with high school recruits signing early this week and the NCAA transfer portal opening on January 2.

Vanderbilt University, currently ranked No. 14, is preparing for postseason possibilities but will be losing a key player. Drew Dickey, the Commodores quarterback, has decided to enter the NCAA transfer portal, according to On3 reporter Pete Nakos.

Dickey has been with Vanderbilt for four seasons but has seen limited action, appearing in only three games. This year, he completed 1-of-2 passes for 28 yards in a 70-21 victory over Georgia State and rushed three times for 13 yards and one touchdown.

Having spent his entire career as a backup, Dickey is seeking more playing opportunities. A three-star recruit from Austin, Texas, he originally chose Vanderbilt over Colorado State, Marshall, and Maryland.
