With only five weeks remaining in the NFL regular season, the playoff landscape is becoming more evident. Some teams are clearly vying for postseason glory, while others appear set to fall short. The playoff format guarantees one team from each division, which could benefit certain squads looking at you, AFC North and NFC South.
Focusing on teams in the top tier of the league, generally with eight or more wins, we can separate the true Super Bowl contenders from those who might sneak into the playoffs but will likely see their season end before the big game. Heres a breakdown as Week 14 approaches:
Chicago Bears
After a rough 0-2 start, including losses to divisional rivals Lions and Vikings, the Bears have dramatically turned their season around. Winning nine of their next ten games, they now lead the NFC North. The team has not lost in over a month, and their Week 13 victory over defending champions Philadelphia Eagles showcased their potential. With two upcoming clashes against the Packers, the division title is still up for grabs.
Denver Broncos
Following their win over the Commanders, the Broncos reached ten victories, becoming just the second team this season to achieve this milestone. After beginning the season 1-2, Denver has now strung together nine consecutive wins, positioning themselves as strong contenders in the AFC.
New England Patriots
Although their Week 13 matchup against the Giants is pending, the Patriots have already demonstrated impressive form. They remain one of four teams yet to take a bye and have won nine straight games following a 1-2 start. Quarterback Drake Maye has impressed, showing promise not seen since the days of Tom Brady. While the competition faced so far has been moderate, the schedule ahead is manageable, with the main challenge being a clash with the Buffalo Bills.
Buffalo Bills
The Bills strengthened their playoff case with a win over a quarterback-depleted Steelers team. However, they have lost two of their last four games against teams they were expected to beat. Despite historically strong seasons, Buffalo often falls short of ultimate success, and this year might follow that pattern.
Indianapolis Colts
After a strong 7-1 start, the Colts have struggled recently, losing three of their last four games, including back-to-back defeats after falling to the Texans. Their loss to Kansas City looks worse in hindsight, as the Chiefs have dropped to 6-6. With a challenging schedule aheadfive of their remaining six games are against teams with eight or more winsthe Colts risk a significant collapse if momentum isnt regained.
Philadelphia Eagles
Even defending champions Philadelphia face hurdles this season. A two-game losing streak, combined with a declining offense, has raised concerns about their ability to compete with the leagues best. Their previous win over the Lions now appears less impressive, highlighting the regression in offensive production compared to prior seasons.
