The 2025 campaign for Texas Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning has been full of ups and downs. Once hailed as one of college footballs most promising young signal-callers, Manning faced a rocky start. His opening game against the Ohio State Buckeyes ended in a 14-7 loss, where he completed 17 of 30 passes for 170 yards, recording one touchdown and one interception.
Following losses to the Florida Gators and the No. 4 Georgia Bulldogs, Mannings early-season struggles drew audible frustration from fans in Austin. During a game against UTEP, a sequence of 10 consecutive incompletions heightened the crowds impatience. Despite these challenges, Manning has showcased moments of brilliance, including a four-touchdown outing versus Sam Houston State and a decisive performance in Texas 27-17 victory over No. 3 Texas A&M, combining effective passing with key rushing plays.
These fluctuations have left both fans and analysts split on Mannings future. Some argue he should declare for the NFL Draft immediately, citing first-round potential and the opportunity to adapt to professional defenses. Others suggest he remain at Texas for another season to polish his mechanics, enhance consistency, and potentially increase his draft value.
Dane Brugler of The Athletic predicts Manning is likely to stay: If Arch Manning goes pro after this season, he will be a first-round lock however, all signs point to him returning, which is the no-brainer decision.
Supporters of turning professional note that Manning would secure his financial future, gain experience against elite defenses, and capitalize on current hype. Conversely, staying in college could allow him to lead the Longhorns to another playoff appearance or marquee bowl game, further elevating his legacy and draft stock.
Manning is still weighing his options, as debate continues over whether the No. 16 Texas Longhorns (8-3) merit a spot in the College Football Playoff despite three losses. The team remains optimistic that the selection committee will view their overall performance positively.
