50-Year-Old Man and His 3-Month-Old Granddaughter Killed in 'Brutal' Pitbull Attack

Authorities in Tennessee are investigating a fatal dog attack that left a 50-year-old man and his 3-month-old granddaughter dead on Wednesday.

According to a statement released by the 14th Judicial District Attorney Generals Office and shared by the Tullahoma Police Department, emergency services received a call around 3:00 p.m. on December 3 reporting that an adult male and an infant had been violently attacked by pit bulls.

Neighbor Brian Kirby told local media that when he returned home from work, he noticed a woman screaming in the street. After he approached to ask if she needed assistance, she ran toward the back of the house. Moments later, emergency vehicles arrived.

Responding officers reported finding the dogs actively attacking the infant upon arrival. The statement described the scene as brutal. Officers killed the dogs on-site to stop the attack, but both victims were already deceased.

Local outlets reported that the family owned multiple dogs, and neighbors claimed the animals had previously attacked other pets in the area. Police have not yet confirmed who owns the dogs involved in the incident. Kirby alleged that one of the dogs had killed his cat a week earlier and that he had planned to file a police report.

An investigation is underway to determine the victims exact causes of death and to examine whether prior incidents involving the dogs or any past concerns related to the family may have played a role in the tragedy.

Authorities have not yet decided whether criminal charges will be filed. While the dogs responsible for the attack were euthanized, the remaining animals in the home were taken into custody by Tullahoma Animal Control for further evaluation.

A fundraising campaign has been launched to assist the family with funeral and memorial expenses.

The district attorneys office expressed condolences to the family and urged the community to keep both the victims' loved ones and the first responders in their thoughts during this difficult time.
