California Couple Charged with Torture and Murder of 14-Month-Old Girl in Heartbreaking Case

Alfredo Muoz Jr., 40, and his wife Kelly Anelalani Muoz, 34, have been formally charged with murder, torture, and assault leading to a childs death following the death of their 14-month-old daughter, authorities reported.

Investigators discovered evidence of prolonged abuse, concluding that the childs death resulted from sustained mistreatment by both her father and stepmother, according to a police statement.

The incident came to light on November 7, when Long Beach police responded to a report at Miller Childrens Hospital concerning a suspected child abuse case. The infant, identified as Tilly S., was found unresponsive and showing signs of trauma. She was placed on life support but succumbed to her injuries three days later.

Deputy District Attorney Brian Rosenberg told the court that the couple inflicted multiple broken bones on the child over several incidents starting in July 2025.

The couple was taken into custody on November 25 and are currently held at the Long Beach City Jail with bail set at $3 million each.

Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman emphasized the severity of the case, stating that it highlights the critical duty to protect children and that the office will pursue justice to the fullest extent for the victim.

Alfredo Muoz has a prior record, having previously pleaded no contest to willful cruelty to a child causing potential injury or death in 2021 and was sentenced to four years in prison.

An arraignment for both defendants is scheduled for December 16.
