A senior at Rollins College in Florida has been taken into custody following an attempt to have 1,500 rounds of ammunition delivered to his dormitory, which led authorities to uncover multiple weapons on campus.
Constantine Demetriades, a 21-year-old student, was arrested on Wednesday, December 3, after campus officials investigated a sizable ammunition delivery. During a search of his dorm room, officers discovered an AR-15 rifle stored under his bed in an unsecured case, along with six magazines, one loaded and five empty. Additional items found included a tactical vest, several knives, a black security vest, ear protection, and a pistol storage case.
Demetriades shared the dorm with three other students but had his own room. He admitted to authorities that he knew firearms were prohibited on campus but believed possessing ammunition was not illegal. He also stated that he had recently traveled to New Jersey with the rifle for Thanksgiving and holds a valid conceal-and-carry permit there, which does not apply in Florida.
The student explained that he did not intend harm and usually stored the firearm off-campus at a friends residence. Demetriades also mentioned that shooting is a hobby for him and that he has prior experience working as armed security at clubs in Orlando.
He faces charges of possession of a firearm on school property and appeared in court on December 4, where a judge allowed pre-trial release. Additionally, Demetriades is undergoing a student conduct review and is prohibited from returning to campus until the investigation concludes.
Rollins College released a statement confirming that the incident was reported as a weapons policy violation, and that the student cooperated with both college officials and law enforcement throughout the investigation. The college emphasized that the student is not allowed on campus while the conduct process is ongoing.
