87-year-old woman dies and three others seriously injured in crash

Tragedy struck on the A706 near Carriber Mill in West Lothian on Friday evening when a two-vehicle accident claimed the life of an 87-year-old woman. She was a passenger in a silver Volkswagen T-Roc and was pronounced dead at the scene around 18:55.

The driver of the Volkswagen, a 64-year-old man, along with a 63-year-old female passenger and a 21-year-old man driving a red Honda Civic, were all hospitalized with serious injuries.

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward. They are especially interested in speaking with the driver of a Range Rover who was traveling along the same road at the time of the crash.

The road was closed for approximately eight hours while initial investigations took place, reopening around 02:00 on Saturday.

Sgt Barry Sommerville commented, "Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the woman who lost her life. Investigations into this collision are continuing."
