Firefighters have confirmed that a fire which devastated a section of a residential block on Marigold Road in Frome was accidental. The incident on Wednesday forced occupants of nine apartments to temporarily relocate to hotels.
Although no serious injuries were reported, the building suffered significant damage, including a partial roof collapse. Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service stated on Saturday that the fire was not deliberate.
The flats are owned by Selwood Housing, who said it is currently "difficult to predict" when residents might safely return. The fire reportedly started in a second-floor apartment, where one resident experienced smoke inhalation and received oxygen treatment before being transferred to paramedics.
At the peak of the emergency, seven fire engines and multiple support vehicles responded, successfully extinguishing the flames by 02:26 GMT on Thursday morning.
The local fire service continues to assess the damage and provide assistance to affected residents.
