In northern Germany, a man narrowly escaped a fire in his apartment after being awakened by his dog, authorities reported on Saturday. The 44-year-old resident managed to reach safety from the upper level of his Moormerland home, located in Lower Saxony, thanks to his alert pet.
He was subsequently hospitalized due to possible smoke inhalation. Officials believe the fire started because of a technical malfunction. The blaze inflicted damage estimated at approximately 15,000 ($17,000).
