In Kerala, India, fire and rescue teams successfully freed a family of four after they were stranded for several hours at a "sky dining" restaurant. The incident occurred on Friday, November 28, at a tourist attraction where a floating table became stuck in the air.
The family, along with one staff member, was trapped approximately 125 feet above the ground when the hydraulic system controlling the suspended table malfunctioned. The table overlooked the picturesque village of Anachal in the Idukki district. Rescue operations commenced around 1:30 p.m. local time, according to reports from The Hindu, Telegraph India, and Metro.co.uk.
The visitors, from Mangalapuram, were identified as Muhammed Safwan, 31, his wife Thoufeena Safwan, 25, and their two children, including a 2-year-old. The employee involved was named Haripriya, 28. Rescue teams used safety harnesses and ropes to bring each person down, while additional personnel secured a net underneath the table as a precaution. By 4:30 p.m., all five individuals had been safely returned to the ground.
Video shared on social media by Kerala Fire and Rescue Services and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan showed the meticulous rescue operation in progress. It is a relief that those who were trapped in the platform of Sky Dining Hydraulic Lift at Idukki Pallivasal were able to be brought safely down, Vijayan commented, praising the Munnar station fire team for their efforts.
The attraction is operated by Southern Skies Aerodynamic. Reports indicated that the restaurant may not have notified authorities promptly and was allegedly functioning without the required civic license. Consequently, the business has received a stop memo, and local police have filed charges against the operators for endangering human lives and jeopardizing public safety. Southern Skies Aerodynamic has not provided a comment regarding the incident.
