Introducing Olivia de Rothschild, the Next-Generation Multihyphenate

Olivia de Rothschild, a native of Geneva and member of a storied family, has built a career defined by range and momentum. Her perspective spans beauty, fragrance, fashion and lifestyle. She is the founder of Olis Lab, an online platform for ethical skin care, the artistic director of Parfums Caron, and a remote business student at Georgetown University.

She describes her family as naturally inclined toward constant activity. Her late father Benjamin de Rothschild and her mother Ariane de Rothschild collected experiences in banking, entrepreneurship, philanthropy, sailing, winemaking and even cheesemaking. Growing up in such an environment, Olivia learned early how to manage multiple pursuits while speaking four languages: English, French, Spanish and Italian.

Her office in the Edmond de Rothschild Asset Management headquarters in Paris once belonged to her father and sits next to her mothers. The historic townhouse on Rue du Faubourg Saint Honore offers sweeping views of the city's slate rooftops, the Grand Palais and the Eiffel Tower. The space reflects her love of art, with sculptural chairs by Ilana Goor and a long table crafted from a road slab by Jean Nicolas Boulmier. Her laptop is covered with stickers, including images of perfume bottles.

Olivias introduction to fashion started at age nine when she began spending weekends learning directly from designer Azzedine Alaia. After boldly asking him why he did not design childrens clothing, he took her measurements and later gifted her a custom skirt. In return, she worked in his atelier doing tasks from assisting with fittings to handling fabrics. She stayed involved until his passing when she was fourteen and credits this period with shaping her appreciation for design and craftsmanship.

Her style sensibility continues to evolve and she supports emerging designers. During the conversation she wore a deconstructed black jacket by Hodakova. While she values luxury, she feels that much of it has become disconnected from real experience and too guided by trends driven by algorithms.

At sixteen, Olivia joined Parfums Caron, a heritage brand beloved by her parents. Her mother often gifted Caron powders and fragrances, and Olivia had spent hours in the boutique exploring its archives. After her familys private holding company acquired the brand in 2018, she voiced concerns about new bottle designs that she felt strayed from the houses distinctive warmth. Encouraged by her mother to take the lead, she began shaping Carons creative direction and now continues to explore how the brand can expand its design language. Perfume, she says, has always felt like a natural form of expression.

Her next major venture emerged at age eighteen when she started developing Olis Lab, an online destination for clean beauty. The idea took shape after a friends teenage daughter struggled to find appropriate skin care. Olivia researched formulas and located suitable products, but sourcing them required visits to several stores. This sparked her desire to streamline access to reliable beauty products and to make skin care easier to understand.

Olis Lab launched after two years of development and is organized around three elements: formula analysis with a risk based grading system, curated product retail and simple educational content called Olis Lab Notes. She believes beauty plays an important role in helping people refocus their minds and feel grounded, which is why the project holds personal significance for her.
