The car park at Chippenham Railway Station has resumed operations following a nine-month closure for major upgrades. Renovation work on the short-stay parking area began in March, focusing on modernizing the facility and improving the overall station environment.
The redevelopment, managed jointly by Wiltshire Council and Great Western Railway, included the installation of new bus shelters, seating areas, landscaping, and an expansion of the station forecourt. According to a GWR representative, all surface work, signage, and landscaping have been completed. The reopening also introduced a new taxi rank alongside the other enhancements.
Martin Smith of Wiltshire Council commented on the projects progress, stating that it represents a significant step in making travel to and from the station more convenient and sustainable. He highlighted that the improvements would strengthen local connections and support the towns ongoing growth and prosperity.
These changes form part of a larger plan to upgrade Chippenham Station, which offers services to London, Bristol Temple Meads, and Bath. Previous upgrades included new lifts, a bridge, and additional improvements around the station building.
The upgrades are expected to encourage greater train usage in the region. GWR added that they are pleased to be completing the project on schedule and within budget, in collaboration with Wiltshire Council.
