Two south west companies have been honored for their creativity and community impact as part of this year's Small Business Saturday (SBS). The nationwide initiative, held on Saturday, December 6, encourages people to back independent enterprises by choosing to shop small and support local traders.
The campaign highlighted 100 brilliant small businesses across the country, including Plymouth-based PUSHED and Falmouth entrepreneur Megan Fatharly. Both were selected among the UK's 100 most inspiring small businesses for 2025.
PUSHED, founded in 2005 by Dave and Karen Meadows, specializes in producing animated content for clients. Dave Meadows said the recognition reflects the dedication the team brings to every project and expressed pride in being named alongside other standout companies.
Artist and business founder Megan Fatharly described the honor as both surreal and grounding. She noted that, as a neurodivergent founder leading a small all-female creative team in Cornwall, she often wonders how far their work reaches. Being acknowledged on a national scale, she said, carries significant meaning and boosts her confidence to continue expanding.
Fatharly added that she appreciated SBS for spotlighting handmade work and slower creativity, which she believes is essential to the creative community.
According to Small Business Saturday, more than 10 million people supported local enterprises during last year's event, spending a collective 634 million both online and in physical stores. Michelle Ovens CBE, director of Small Business Saturday UK, said early economic indicators ahead of the festive season are encouraging and emphasized that public support can help small firms finish the year on a stronger footing.
