James Franklin has successfully added a key player to his Virginia Tech recruiting class, flipping a highly-rated wide receiver who had previously pledged to Penn State. This four-star recruit, known by the nickname FatRat, now remains closer to home in Richmond, Virginia.

On3 reporter Hayes Fawcett shared the news of the commitment change on Tuesday, quoting FatRat saying, "The best in VA stay in VA." The wide receiver's real name is Davion Brown. Standing 6-foot-3 and weighing 185 pounds, Brown played high school football at Trinity Episcopal School in Richmond.

Before committing to Virginia Tech, Brown had received offers from several prominent programs, including Penn State and Georgia, as well as Duke and Maryland. His decision to flip was influenced by Franklins recruiting efforts and the trust they built over time. Brown told On3, I think (Franklin) knows how to create a winning culture and he has been recruiting me for a while now and so the trust and the connection we have built has been special.

During his senior year, Brown recorded 26 receptions for 638 yards and nine touchdowns. He also contributed 284 rushing yards and eight touchdowns, along with a pick-six, a kickoff return touchdown, and a punt return touchdown, showcasing his versatility on the field.
