Jennifer Meyer, Tobey Maguire's former wife, reveals shocking confession after divorce

Actor Tobey Maguire and Jennifer Meyer, who divorced in 2020, have rebuilt a strong friendship. The pair, married from 2007 to 2017, are dedicated to co-parenting their daughter Ruby, 19, and son Otis, 15. Jennifer credits actress Gwyneth Paltrow for guiding her toward maintaining a positive connection with Maguire. On the December 1 episode of Maeve Reillys The Inside Edit podcast, Meyer described her divorce as a profound learning experience. She explained, Divorce is one of my greatest teachers. It teaches patience while raising kids together.

Initially, Jennifer kept the split private. After Tobey and I separated, we still lived under the same roof. We didnt inform anyone because we didnt want the kids to be affected, she said. She emphasized that the breakup was a natural conclusion of their relationship, rather than a result of a single event. It was time to end it. It was difficult because we deeply loved and cared for each other, Meyer added. When a relationship ends, theres often a brief period of resentment as a coping mechanism.

Jennifer found inspiration in observing her friend Gwyneth Paltrows amicable relationship with her ex-husband, Chris Martin. She recalled visiting Paltrow about a decade ago, when Martin casually dropped by to spend time with their child. He didnt ring the doorbell; he just came over to help with Apples homework. Gwyneth welcomed him with quesadillas. It was so normal and kind, Meyer shared, noting the contrast with her own parents contentious divorce.

Paltrow suggested therapy for Jennifer and Tobey, which helped them sustain a healthy bond. Meyer now describes Maguire as her best friend, praising his role as a father and ex-spouse. I have an ex-husband who is my best friend. He is generous, loving, and the best dad. I would do anything for him, and he would do the same for me, she said.
