Next year, audiences will see Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi star in Emerald Fennells cinematic adaptation of the classic love story Wuthering Heights. The director envisions the film resonating with viewers as profoundly as the iconic romance Titanic.
The first trailer, released in September, generated attention for its passionate portrayal of Robbies Catherine and Elordis Heathcliff. The story follows their intense, often vengeful romance that unfolds at the legendary estate.
In a British Vogue cover interview, Robbie, who also produces the film, discussed what audiences might expect. Everyone thinks this will be extremely steamy. While it is provocative, its ultimately a romance at its heart, she explained. Its a sweeping love storysomething we havent really seen in a while, maybe since The Notebook or The English Patient. Those were decades ago.
Robbie shared that she and Fennell invested significant time exploring the films intimate moments. Its not just about sexual acts or someone taking off their shirt. Its the subtle gestures and emotions we, as women in our 30s, connect with. This film speaks to our generation, she said.
Fennell had a clear vision for the films impact. When I asked Emerald what she imagined for this movie, she said she wanted it to be the Titanic of this generation. She wanted that emotional intensity that makes people come back to the cinema again and again, Robbie recounted. She also noted the films appeal as a group experience, encouraging women to see it with friends and calling it a strong date movie choice.
For context, Titanic followed the romance of Jack and Rose, played by Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, bridging different social worlds. DiCaprio previously worked with Robbie in The Wolf of Wall Street (2013), her first American feature.
Wuthering Heights marks the third collaboration between Fennell and Robbies LuckyChap Productions, following Promising Young Woman (2020) and Saltburn (2023). Fennell, who won an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for Promising Young Woman, described Robbie as the perfect choice for Cathy, citing her dynamic presence and charisma.
Robbie also touched on her future ambitions in directing, noting, Ive wanted to direct for a decade. The timing feels right to explore that next chapter in my career.
The film is scheduled for a theatrical release on February 13, 2026, from Warner Bros.
