Pop singer Sabrina Carpenter has voiced her disapproval over the White Houses recent use of her music in a video highlighting immigration enforcement activities. The controversy emerged after her 2024 track Juno appeared in a government post promoting ICE raids.
In the video, which lasts 21 seconds, federal agents are shown pursuing and detaining individuals, with a portion of Carpenters song playing, including the line, Have you ever tried this one? Responding on X, Carpenter denounced the clip: This video is evil and disgusting. Do not ever involve me or my music to benefit your inhumane agenda.
Juno, from her Grammy-winning album Short n Sweet, was inspired by the 2007 film about teenage pregnancy. The use of the song alongside law enforcement footage drew sharp criticism from the artist and her fans, highlighting the unauthorized nature of its inclusion.
White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson defended the video, referencing Carpenters lyrics in her response. Jackson stated, Heres a Short n Sweet message for Sabrina Carpenter: we wont apologize for deporting dangerous criminal illegal murderers, rapists, and pedophiles from our country, adding, Anyone who would defend these sick monsters must be stupid, or is it slow?
Carpenter joins a growing list of musicians opposing the use of their work by the Trump administration. Olivia Rodrigo previously criticized the administration in 2022 for playing her song Traitor at a rally, calling it completely twisted. Other artists who have raised similar objections include Beyonc, Elton John, Adele, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and ABBA.
Critics have also expressed concerns over ICE practices, such as conducting raids in Hispanic neighborhoods and targeting apartment complexes, which public figures including Pope Leo have condemned as excessive and inhumane.
