Pop singer Sabrina Carpenter is distancing herself from the Trump administration after her song Juno was used in a controversial White House video. On Tuesday, December 2, Carpenter condemned the government for sharing footage of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers apprehending people on the streets, accompanied by a clip of her hit from the Short n Sweet Tour.
This video is evil and disgusting, Carpenter wrote on X, adding, Do not ever involve me or my music to benefit your inhumane agenda. Billboard has contacted the White House for comment.
The video repurposes a comedic moment from Carpenters tour where she arrested audience members for being too attractive before performing Juno. Throughout the tour, which concluded in November after more than a year, she had handed out pink fuzzy handcuffs to celebrities including Millie Bobby Brown, TWICE, SZA, and Miss Piggy, before launching into the song. The same line from her performance, Have you ever tried this one? now plays over the ICE footage in the governments video, despite Carpenter being openly critical of Trump.
After Trumps 2024 election win, Carpenter addressed fans during a concert, expressing support for women and encouraging them to enjoy the evening despite political challenges.
This is not the first instance of the Trump administration using music without permission. Recently, Olivia Rodrigo condemned the White House for pairing her song with a video promoting self-deportations. Similarly, Kenny Loggins criticized the use of Danger Zone in an AI-generated video, and Taylor Swift fans objected to a TikTok featuring The Fate of Ophelia.
