President Donald Trump has made a significant change in the team overseeing the construction of his expansive White House ballroom, replacing the lead architect, sources report. The update was confirmed by multiple insiders to The Washington Post.
James McRery III, initially selected by Trump to design the $300 million project, has been succeeded by Shalom Baranes, a seasoned architect with decades of experience working on government buildings in Washington. Baraness firm has been involved in major local projects, including work on the Treasury building and the General Services Administration headquarters.
The change follows reports that Trump and McRery had conflicting views on the ballroom's design, particularly its scale. The proposed ballroom, at 90,000 square feet, would almost double the size of the White House itself, which is 55,000 square feet.
Despite being replaced, McRery will continue to contribute to the project in a consulting capacity, according to statements from the White House and his representatives.
