Trump accuses Democrats of 'destroying' Charlotte after another person is stabbed on light rail system

Former President Donald Trump criticized Democratic leadership in Charlotte, North Carolina, after another stabbing incident occurred on the citys light rail system involving an alleged unauthorized immigrant. This follows a previous high-profile attack earlier this year, which resulted in the death of a Ukrainian refugee.

Trump commented on Truth Social, saying, Another stabbing by an Illegal Migrant in Charlotte, North Carolina. Whats happening in Charlotte? Democrats are destroying it, piece by piece!

The latest incident took place Friday night when 33-year-old Oscar Solarzano reportedly became intoxicated, confronted a passenger, and stabbed him. Solarzano has been charged with attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, and several other related offenses, and is currently held at Mecklenburg County Jail.

The victim, Kenyon Kareem-Shemar Dobie, was hospitalized and is reported to be in stable condition, according to Mecklenburg EMS.

Court documents describe Solarzano as an illegal who had previously been deported. Authorities say he was intoxicated, spoke incoherently, and used a large fixed-blade knife in the attack. Solarzano, a Honduran national, has entered the United States illegally multiple times, with previous deportations in 2018 and 2021. The timing of his most recent entry is unknown.

[Immigration and Customs Enforcement] lodged a detainer to ensure this criminal illegal is not released back into North Carolina neighborhoods, said DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin, noting uncertainty over whether local authorities would honor the detainer.

Solarzano is scheduled for a court appearance on Monday.

Republicans quickly blamed local Democratic officials, referencing the fatal stabbing of Iryna Zarutska in August on the same light rail system. Critics argue that Democratic crime policies contributed to such incidents. Representative Mark Harris of North Carolina commented, Oscar Solarzano was previously deported and then illegally entered our country AGAIN. These are the folks NC's pro-crime Democrats want to keep on the streets.

Last month, the Trump administration increased the deployment of immigration agents to Charlotte, as part of a wider effort targeting Democrat-led cities. The administration characterized this as a crackdown on violent offenders, though CBS News reported that fewer than one-third of those arrested had prior criminal records.

Charlotte city officials have noted that overall crime has been declining this year, with homicides down 24 percent and aggravated assaults down 19 percent as of the third quarter. Following the fatal Zarutska stabbing, local authorities increased patrols on the light rail system to improve passenger safety.
