At Chanels Mtiers dArt show in New York City, a celebration of diverse hair shapes and textures took center stage. Creative director Matthieu Blazy, alongside renowned stylist Duffy, transformed a subway platform beneath 168 Bowery into a showcase where past, present, and future hairstyles collided in playful harmony.
Models moved along the cement runway surrounded by abandoned cars and unused tracks, displaying everything from voluminous curls to sleek bobs, pixie cuts, and more experimental looks. Hair served both as a statement accessory atop crocodile leather and woven dresses, and as a practical challenge, tucked beneath cocktail hats or styled into buns to withstand the imagined subway commute.
Blazy described the concept as capturing the serendipity of everyday life: a chance encounter on the way to work where anything could appear at the corner. Every type of individual and style was welcomed, from a 80s-inspired businesswoman in a black Zoot suit and fedora, concealing her platinum hair, to a Chanel muse sporting carefree, frizzed layers reminiscent of a tumbleweed.
Other standout looks included a model with a dramatic black-and-white toupee layered over a blonde bob, paired with bold sunglasses, and another flaunting a pompadour reminiscent of 1950s masculinity but reimagined with an 80s rocker flair, set against cheetah print ensembles and ruby-red lips.
Beehives made a striking appearance too, with one honey-colored style towering like a second head, softened by long bangs grazing sunglasses. Another hairstyle, shaped like an oval quiff with rounded sides, complemented a fringed abstract-print skirt and sweater set, blending classic structure with modern creativity.
Front-row attendees admired the innovative styling, including Tilda Swintons signature bleached blond quiff and Linda Evangelistas contrasting dark look. Christine Baranski showcased a teased, off-forehead style that hinted at the slick wet hair trend embraced by celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Kaia Gerber, and Kate Hudson.
Duffy, known for her boundary-pushing work with brands such as Saint Laurent, Alaia, Loewe, Marc Jacobs, and Bottega Veneta, crafted each hairstyle to balance avant-garde artistry with wearable fashion, bringing a new dimension to the Chanel Mtiers dArt 2025 runway.
