Kalen DeBoer, Alabama Receives Unfavorable Update During College Football Season

Kalen DeBoer and the Alabama Crimson Tide are gearing up for another clash with the Georgia Bulldogs in the SEC Championship Game. This marks the second meeting between these two top SEC teams this season, with Alabama having previously triumphed over Georgia, giving them a slight edge in the conference standings.

As all eyes are on the highly anticipated game between Alabama and Georgia, featuring two of the nations best coaches, Kalen DeBoer and Kirby Smart, the college football world also saw a notable recruiting shift on Wednesday. Many top prospects in the 2026 recruiting class officially committed to their chosen schools. However, one commitment in particular made waves when it was reversed.

Owen Cabell, a 2026 wide receiver, decided to decommit from Alabama and instead pledged his commitment to Vanderbilt. Cabell, who had been committed to Alabama since June, announced his decision on social media, expressing excitement about staying closer to home.

"Thank you God!! Im staying home! Anchor Down !" Cabell tweeted, marking the end of his time as an Alabama commit.

At 6'3" and 205 pounds, Cabell is ranked as a four-star prospect, holding the position of the No. 87 wide receiver and No. 630 overall player nationally according to 247Sports. Despite his switch to Vanderbilt, Cabell had also received offers from several other major programs, including Illinois, Boston College, Duke, Georgia, Arkansas, and Tennessee.

While this is a setback for DeBoer, who is looking to secure top-tier skill players for Alabama's future, the teams focus remains on the SEC Championship game. Alabama, currently with a 10-2 record, will face Georgia, who enters the game with an 11-1 record. Alabama holds a slight advantage from their earlier meeting in the season.
