3 Young Students Rush to Save Teacher's Life After Choking Incident
A teacher's life was saved by her quick-thinking first-grade students after she began choking on food in her classroom at Lakeview Elementary School in Colonial Heights, Virginia, last month.
Madison Swift, a 23-year-old teacher, was working with a student when she began to choke on her food. She recalled, "I was eating while working with a student when I suddenly started choking on my food." The situation quickly turned dangerous as Swift struggled to breathe, and her face turned red, prompting the students to spring into action.
Kolton Hersh, 7, Dereck Contreras-Franco, 6, and Bryson Doss, 6, acted quickly to help. Doss ran to a nearby classroom to get assistance from another teacher, while Contreras-Franco pressed the emergency call button and yelled for help. Meanwhile, Hersh began performing back blows on Swift to help dislodge the food that was blocking her airway.
"The student next to me bent me over and started doing back blows to my back, and that helped dislodge the food," Swift said, expressing her gratitude to the three young students. "They 100 percent saved my life."
In recognition of their bravery, Lakeview Elementary School honored the trio with a social media post calling them "heroes." The teacher also praised her students' quick thinking and courage during the frightening event.
At the end of the week, Swift presented the boys with prizes from her treasure box as a token of appreciation. In a post on Facebook, the school shared their pride in the students' actions: "We are so proud of these three first graders! They jumped into action when they noticed that their teacher was choking. Thank you to our Lakeview heroes!" Swift also commented on the post, calling them "my little life savers" and sharing a red heart emoji.
This heartwarming story has received widespread praise for the bravery of the young students and their heroic efforts to save their teacher's life.
