IDF probes actions of reserve soldiers who injured Palestinian suspect

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have initiated an investigation into reservist soldiers following injuries sustained by a Palestinian suspect during his arrest, according to Army Radio reports on Saturday.

The suspect, described as mentally ill, suffered multiple injuries, including to his face, after approaching Israeli civilians while shouting slogans about martyrdom and threatening violence. The IDF indicated that some injuries occurred when the suspect fell on rocks amid the arrest attempt.

The reservist soldiers involved stated that they ordered the suspect to step back and fired warning shots into the air, but he continued moving toward them. During the encounter, they engaged physically with the suspect until they were able to subdue him.

The IDF characterized the injuries as "disturbing" and said they would be thoroughly reviewed. Images of the suspect's wounds circulated widely in Palestinian media.

Following the arrest, the suspect was detained and questioned by the Shin Bet before being released. He is reportedly from a village near Ramallah in the West Bank.
